Yu Sin Kong: Early Life

I would say that I have a good sense of humor. As soon as I meet new people who are happy to meet me, I feel extremely comfortable with them. I believe that establishing good meaningful relationships is one of the most important things we as humans must do. We exchange new ideas and different outlooks on life which I find very interesting.
Meeting new people who support all my efforts to grow and develop my skills not only in the subjects but also in my hobbies gives me a lot of energy. My current circle of friends are mostly colleagues from work. Being in this industry, we tend to work in teams a lot. This is especially true for a small country like Malaysia which currently only has a population of about 31 million (at the time of this writing).
I remember back in my high school days, the teachers would often call out my name. For example, I remember one particular topic given by my history teacher. She said, "Yu Sin Kong, please come up front and give the whole class a presentation on the topic we discussed last week." Of course I did my best to give my presentation, which by the way, was on the history of Kota Kinabalu (formerly known as Jesselton) and other parts of Sabah. This was the first time I felt the confidence of my knowledge as I really do love my hometown. I grew up fondly in the paddy fields where my dad used to work as a paddy farmer. Well this really did inspire me to work on what I knew best, which at the time was history and computing (back when I was in school, computers were hard to come by). Lo and behold a few years later, I would end up being quite well known in the local tech scene. If you had asked me before that, there was no way I would have said that "I, Yu Sin Kong, will make it big in this industry."
I find it amusing in ordinary and showcase that. My job is to present the ordinary stuff that happens to you in a way that will make the reader want to know you better. It’s all a matter of the right perspective. I am trying my best to take multiple stands on who I am are as a person, and to include that all in an ordered form.
It is really easy to get lost when you are writing something as vague and as perspective-oriented as an essay about yourself. People tend to choose a number of themes of who they are and try to describe them all. That's why I find it important to emphasize on my past life and how I ended up in this industry. There will certainly be more to come, as I try and make my journey on Blogger a fruitful one.
Til then.
